I applaud your read of the movie in general, and of the feminist agency of Uhura in particular. One can be an active nurturer rather than passive, and that's a good thing.

I expected to be disappointed by this movie, and instead, I was pleasantly surprised. What does annoy me, however, is the way the commercials on television forcefully imply that Kirk gets the girl (Uhura).

The physics of red matter do bug me a bit, but willing suspension of disbelief takes care of most of it. BUT...Why does it crush planets and the starships of villains (sometimes) and hurl people back in time on other occasions? Is it a black hole or a wormhole? Or do I not understand the time-space-matter physics of these portals?
